Experience HerbsWhat's on Site?—The Botanical SanctuaryRestoration Herbs is located on six and a half acres. About an acre of woodland falls down to a creek alongside 5 acres of pasture, slowly being turned into formal and informal herb gardens and vegetable plots. We’ll soon begin planting an orchard and a wild flower meadow. Our LandOur land is already home to many “to-watch” herbs. The woods with their stands of black cherry, hemlock, dogwoods, shaggy bark hickory and linden are perfect for the re-introduction of “at-risk” species, including ginseng, black cohosh and goldenseal. Indeed, in the 1800’s Pennsylvania hillsides hosted copious stands of ginseng but its export business was only too successful in almost ridding the area of indigenous species. Becoming a Botanical SanctuaryBecoming a Botanical Sanctuary under the aegis of UNITED PLANT SAVERS is enabling us to protect our land, not just for ourselves and our visitors but for all the life forms it supports; plants, animals, birds and microorganisms – as well as for future generations, human or otherwise! Visiting the Botanical Sanctuary at Restoration Herbs will open your eyes to herbs grown in a woodland setting. |
