Basil—refuses to give an account of himself. We do know that
he is devoted to his mother and spends a lot of time communing with Nature.
He has an encyclopedic knowledge of herbs, flowers and vegetables and can tell you in the blink of
an eye the difference between a rhizome and a tuber, but he hates to get his
hands dirty and cannot be persuaded to help in the greenhouse.
He is very much a back room man who prefers to write rather than speak and talks only to himself so do not attempt to contact him by telephone.
